"She didn't know why, but though he wasn't much older than her, there was a sort of undeniable strength about him. A strenght that shielded her like a warm blanket. After she was sure he was asleep, she finally whispered, "I'm glad you're here.""Me, too," Joshen surprised her by responding."

The world is changing. Once, Witch Song controlled everything from the winds to the shifting of the seasons-but not anymore. All the Witches are gone, taken captive by a traitor. All but Brusenna. As the echo of their songs fade, the traitor grows stronger. Now she is coming for Brusenna. Her guardian has sworn to protect her, but even he can't stop the Dark Witch. Somehow, Brusenna has to succeed where every other Witch has failed. Find the traitor. Fight her. Defeat her. Because if Brusenna doesn't, there won't be anything left to save.

This is a classic good versus evil story, with a bit of romance and a lot of special twists that keep you intrigued throughout the whole book.

Senna goes on an adventure that puts her life in danger more than a few times. Evil seems to catch up with her every time she's trying to get closer to her goal which gives us a few really fast paced and edge-of-your-seat scenes, with gunfire, powerful song and help from unexpected angles.

I like the new concept of Witchcraft the author created in this story. I was a bit afraid to read a cliché witch story, but this was anything but that. The idea to use song and voice as a power is so imaginative! Using nature as the elements responding to the song maybe isn’t that new, but it made this story more recognizable and real. I hadn’t read that many witch books, but I guess the genre has a new fan ^^

Senna is a brave, loving young girl an I really like the way she can handle a situation and take responsibility, but sometimes she's a little bit too naïve and too ...good. No way I would send away the only living human being if I was stranded on a deserted island with an impossible task to prepare for.
I would be too scared, but it seems Senna is rather fearless and puts the life of others before her own. This is an honorable trait, but I was constantly wondering if someone in real life would make the same choices like Senna did. I think this is an intriguing question: if the time comes, would I chose myself or would I chose to save someone else’s life?

I love the development of the relationship between Senna and Joshen. They went from strangers to travel companions, to friends, to trusting each other with their life and eventually to so much more. I’m glad the whole love triangle – insta-love hype hasn’t affected all the latest YA books.

Also, the bad guys in this story are hilarious, in a good way. We’ve got the smart, handsome one and the dumb, rather ugly one. Typical, but it gives this tale some lightness.
All in all, this is a great read! Everyone who loves a good adventurous YA book about witchcraft based in a new, fictional world should buy this!
